Eww, I Got Titan Blood on My Dualshock II

I picked up God of War II when I heard about its (finally!) price drop to the oh so sweet roundness of $20.  Having played the first God of War and finding it “meh”, I was curious to see what the sequel would be like.  While I wasn’t willing to shell out full price, I happily forked over an Andrew Jackson to see just what Sony Santa Monica had cooked up without the direction of David Jaffe.

Oh!

My!

Freakin’!

Gee!

I was expecting more of the same.  Lots of bad dudes lining up to kill me while I summarily dispatched them with my blood spewing weapons sprinkled in with a few humongoid bosses that required timed button presses to really defeat.  I expected it would be as good as the first GoW and I certainly did not expect it to invade my weekend!  Yet it did, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

God of War II is better than it has any right to be and doesn’t even slow down from the moment you push the Start button.  The whole game is beautiful, and that’s not even saying “for a PS2″ game”.  It just looks and controls so dang smooth.  I have no idea what happened between the first and second installment to make it better.  I mean, the story is still kind of stupid and Kratos is still a fart eater with so much pride he’d be falling into seven black holes simultaneously whenever he opened his mouth to speak, but none of that matters.  This is one instance where I can truly say that game play is winning me out over story.  Except for the quick-time events (aka timed button presses), which will probably be best left on the cutting room floor in favor of just adding more pure whoop-ass!

It’s just plain fun.  I extraordinarily recommend it to everyone!
